Current Data

Manual Snow Surveys are conducted eight times per year around the beginning of every month from January through June with extra measurements at mid-month in May and June. A more complete explanation of the process of manual snow surveying, as well as the snow survey sampling guide used by BC snow surveyors, can be found at the above links.

Automatic Snow Pillows (ASP) stations relay data from remote sites via satellite. A more complete description of ASP stations and the methodology used is available. Snow water equivalent data are abstracted for each site and plotted with comparisons to other years' data. These graphs are updated daily. The ASP graphs are available for viewing.

Website for viewing real-time and historic ASP data is now available. Graphs download extremely slowly at this stage of development, we recommend viewing tables or downloading CSV files as it is quicker. Note that these data are automatically downloaded from the remote sites and posted without any checking and this current snow year's data are therefore liable to major errors and equipment failures.

Near Real Time ASP Data to 6 a.m. this morning can be viewed by our older file download method. However, we cannot over-emphasize the fact that these data are automatically downloaded from the remote sites and posted without any checking and are therefore liable to major errors and equipment failures. Data available, often on an hourly basis, include temperatures, cumulative precipitation, snow depth and snow water equivalent are available each morning along with the data for the previous 7 days. Programs for graphing downloaded ASP daily data are available.

Ground water Observation wells are updated monthly.

Data collected prior to October 1, 2006

The archive page enables access to historic snow survey data and previous Snow Survey Bulletins from 1997 to 2006-07. Until 1996, all snow information was published in a hard copy Snow Survey Bulletin. Copies of these are not generally available.
